FAQs

RelWOOD® is a revolutionary natural fibre composite board made using rice husk and high-performance resins, making it an eco-friendly, sustainable alternative to plywood, MDF, and tropical hardwoods. With zero wood content, RelWOOD® offers an environmentally responsible solution for modern construction and interior applications.

RelWOOD® is a versatile board suitable for both interior and exterior applications. It is commonly used in:
  • Façade
  • Cladding
  • Decking
  • Wall panelling
  • Furniture
  • Ceiling
  • Kitchen Cabinet
  • CNC Jalli
RelWOOD® performs reliably across diverse climatic conditions in India and globally, making it ideal for home, commercial, and institutional projects.

RelWOOD® is 100% water-proof with < 1% water absorption (24h) as per IS-2380, which means it does not swell on contact with water, making it a sustainable, long-life alternative to conventional wood in India’s monsoon and coastal climates. These benefits translate into high dimensional stability, low maintenance, and reliable performance for outdoor use when installed as per our guidelines.

Yes, RelWOOD® is 100% termite, fungus and borer proof with zero wood composition making it susceptible to wood pests. Unlike traditional wood and plywood, it contains zero wood particles, making it naturally resistant to all common wood-damaging pests and microbial growth. This makes it ideal for high-humidity regions like coastal and tropical areas in India.

To maintain its shape and performance, RelWOOD® sheets should be stored flat and evenly supported across their entire length. Avoid:
  • Leaning boards against walls
  • Stacking unevenly
  • Exposing them to prolonged moisture or direct sun while in storage
Proper storage helps prevent bending, warping, or sagging, ensuring the boards remain dimensionally stable for your projects.

No, RelWOOD® boards are free from hazardous heavy metals such as:
  • Lead (Pb)
  • Cadmium (Cd)
  • Mercury (Hg)
RelWOOD® is non-toxic, safe for indoor and outdoor use, and compliant with international environmental and health safety standards. It’s a and green building material, ideal for sustainable architecture.

Thermoforming

The heating time is approximately 1 to 1.5 minutes per millimeter of board thickness. It's crucial to heat the board evenly to a temperature of about 100 - 120 ºC throughout the entire piece. This ensures that the board becomes malleable enough to shape without damaging it.

Once the board reaches the desired temperature, maintain this temperature for about 3 to 4 minutes. This 'hold time' is essential for the material to become sufficiently flexible for shaping.

Yes, it’s possible for the panel to shrink when heated without a frame. Therefore, it is recommended to cut the board to the final size only after the reshaping and cooling process is complete to ensure accurate dimensions.

Yes, conducting preliminary tests is recommended. These tests allow you to understand how the material reacts to heating and shaping, ensuring that you can achieve the desired result without damaging the board.

Screwing

It is recommended to opt for screws made from materials like stainless steel or coated screws to prevent corrosion, especially if the project involves outdoor applications or exposure to moisture.

Leave sufficient expansion gaps between composite boards, especially in outdoor applications subject to temperature fluctuations. Failure to provide adequate expansion space can result in buckling or deformation of the material.

Adhesives

We have following range of adhesives which we recommend for our products:
RelFix is an Epoxy based adhesive which we recommend for bonding RelWOOD® to RelWOOD® or RelWOOD® to other substrates.

Relfix Lami is an epoxy based two component adhesive which structurally bonds thin sheets (laminates, veeners) & RelWOOD® for long lasting strength.

RelSeal is an Epoxy based putty which we recommend as a dent or any other blemish filler for RelWOOD® sheets.

Acoustic

RelWOOD® panels achieve an STC of ~35 dB, which is considered good for general sound blocking. On their own, they suit offices, retail, corridors, partition cladding, and other non-critical spaces.
